Safe, personalised nutrition

Pregnancy nutrition in Alicante

Eating well during pregnancy doesn't mean following a strict diet or "eating for two". It means adapting what you eat to each trimester, looking after your health and your baby's, and finding practical solutions to nausea, heartburn, constipation or changes in appetite.

Personalised nutrition during pregnancy

Every pregnancy is different. We start from your preferences, schedule, blood test results, symptoms and cooking style, to build an approach to eating you can actually keep up with day to day.

Nutrition in each trimester

First trimester

Nausea, vomiting, tiredness or food aversions can appear. We adapt timing, portions and preparation so you can eat more comfortably.

Second trimester

Often a good time to settle into habits, organise menus, and monitor weight, iron and blood sugar.

Third trimester

We focus especially on fullness, heartburn, reflux, constipation and organising food for the final weeks and the postnatal period.

Common pregnancy symptoms

  • Nausea and vomiting.
  • Heartburn and reflux.
  • Constipation.
  • Bloating.
  • Poor appetite.
  • Food aversions.

Special situations

Some pregnancies need more specific nutritional support. We always work alongside your medical team:

  • Gestational diabetes.
  • Anaemia and iron deficiency.
  • Low or high pre-pregnancy weight.
  • Gestational hypertension or risk of pre-eclampsia.
  • Allergies, intolerances or coeliac disease.
  • Vegetarian or vegan pregnancy.

Nutritional support never replaces medical follow-up — it works alongside it.

Food safety during pregnancy

It's completely normal to have questions about cured meats, sushi, cheese, fish, eggs, or ready meals. In consultation, you'll get clear, up-to-date guidance on:

  • Preventing toxoplasmosis and listeriosis.
  • Safe fish consumption and mercury exposure.
  • Raw or undercooked meat, fish and eggs.
  • Cheeses made with unpasteurised milk.
  • Washing and storing fruit and vegetables.
  • Cured meats, pâtés and chilled ready-to-eat foods.
  • Caffeine.
  • Storing and reheating food safely.

The aim isn't to spend your pregnancy afraid of food, but to feel confident making safe choices.

Personalised menus

Menus are adapted to how you like to cook: quick meals, traditional cooking, batch cooking, eating out or a vegetarian diet. You won't just receive a list of dishes — you'll also learn how to organise meals and make substitutions as your day changes.

Preparing for the postnatal period

In the final weeks, we can also plan meals for the first weeks after birth: simple meals, freezer-friendly dishes, and options adapted to recovery and, where relevant, breastfeeding. See also our breastfeeding support →.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions about pregnancy nutrition

When should I see a nutritionist during pregnancy?

You can reach out from pre-conception planning or at any trimester. There's no need to wait for a health issue or an abnormal blood test result.

Do you provide meal plans?

Yes. Menus are adapted to your preferences, schedule, symptoms, blood test results and cooking style, with alternatives so you can adjust them.

Can you help with gestational diabetes?

Yes, with a tailored plan and in coordination with your midwife, obstetrician, endocrinologist or medical team.

Do you review supplements?

Supplements are considered in the context of your blood tests, diet and existing medical guidance. It isn't advisable to take supplements without proper advice.

Can I follow a vegetarian diet during pregnancy?

Yes, as long as it's well planned, with particular attention to nutrients such as protein, iron, calcium and vitamin B12.

Can you help me manage pregnancy weight gain?

We provide individualised support, avoiding restrictive diets, and taking into account your starting point and how your pregnancy is progressing.

What can I eat when I have severe nausea?

We adapt timing, portions, textures and food choices until we find the options you tolerate best.

Which foods should be avoided during pregnancy?

We go through the foods that carry more risk (cured meats, unpasteurised cheeses, high-mercury fish, undercooked meat or eggs) and how to swap them for safer alternatives.
